FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Also concluded in recent days were a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Climate Change and a MOU on Cultural Cooperation, which will promote joint programs and exchanges in the performing and visual arts. Canadian investments in 14 Chinese clean technology projects, under the Asia-Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate, were also announced this week. `` We have been working hard to build political relationships and strengthen ties, to foster cooperation, trade and prosperity. I am very pleased by our successes thus far,`` said Andrew Saxton from China. Mr. Saxton, vice-chair of the Canada China Legislative Association, discussed bilateral visits next year with his Chinese counterparts, to mark the 40th Anniversary of the start of diplomatic relations between Canada and China. On Friday, speaking to the Canada China Business Council in Shanghai, Prime Minister Harper trumpeted the opening of four new Canadian trade offices, in Nanjing, Qingdao, Shenyang and Wuhan. The offices will enhance Canada`s ability to support commercial links in exports, investment and innovation. On Saturday, the delegation will visit the Canada Pavilion for Expo 2010 in Shanghai, before travelling to Hong Kong and onto Korea. China is Canada’s third largest export market and second largest merchandise trading partner. Its economy is the world’s third largest. -30- |
